Jeff Koons has made himself into a brand through his art, which is bold, audacious, prolific, across a broad range of style, medium, and genera. Koons had some art training early on, but he started out as a Wall Street investment banker. He then invested himself and his money in the creation of art that grabs the attention . He’s more a conceptual artist than one who toils over the creative process with technique he applies himself. Koons employs a crew of skilled artisans, who use their talents to bring his ideas to life. More than that…in many instances the ideas themselves come from the artisans, who then bring them to life as works attributed to Koons. There are koons paintings, Koons sculptures, Koons movies, Koons designs of every description The guy has made a fortune with his artistic brand. If I could remake my life, I would seek a path similar to the one Jeff Koons has successfully created for himself. He has no limits. Whatever he touches turns to gold.
If I had Jeff Koons’ artistic flair and momentum going for me, I would do things somewhat differently. Koons seems to be apolitical, and mostly about finessing the creative process for fame and fortune. I would create art to influence our eroding culture in a more positive and life-affirming direction. In my own way, I am doing that right now, though I have no illusions about ever achieving the kind of success Jeff Koons continues to experience. It sure looks like he’s having fun. I admit, I’m also having fun attempting to leverage my own brand of art to encourage the change I wish to see…
